Tell Coke: No Torch in Tibet!

Dear Elena victoria,

Coca-Cola is holding its annual shareholders meeting in Delaware today. As an official sponsor of China's global torch relay, and one of the most influential corporations in the world, Coca-Cola has the power to pressure the International Olympic Committee to stop the torch from going to Tibet in May and June. Tibetans and their supporters are at the meeting right now to speak out and demand Coca Cola's executives use their influence to save Tibetan lives.

Please make sure Coca-Cola feels the pressure today; send the letter below and phone their corporate headquarters at 1-800-GET-COKE (1-800-438-2653). As a signatory to the U.N. Global Compact, Coca-Cola has promised to "support and respect the protection of international human rights" and ensure that Coca-Cola is "not complicit in human rights abuses." Tell Coke that it will have blood on its hands for any Tibetan lives lost as a result of the torch going to Tibet and to use its influence now to do the right thing. ***Please be polite but firm when you call.

Send a letter to the following decision maker(s):
Mr. Neville Isdell

Below is the sample letter:

Subject: Tell the IOC: No Torch in Tibet

Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],

I am deeply concerned about Coca-Cola's sponsorship of the Chinese government's Olympic torch relay, which includes running the torch through occupied Tibet.

Given the current conditions in Tibet where Chinese forces are shooting at unarmed protesters, raiding monasteries and nunneries and imprisoning thousands of innocent Tibetans for doing nothing more than speaking out for freedom, it is unconscionable for your corporation to sponsor China's torch relay.

The Chinese government has already stated it will increase 'security measures' for this leg of the torch run, which will undoubtedly result in further arrests, beatings, torture and killings of innocent Tibetans. On April 9th, the Governor of Tibet threatened that "if anyone dares disrupt the Olympic torch relay they will be treated harshly and with no leniency." As we have seen in the past month, Tibetans are committed to speaking out for their freedom at this critical time. Therefore, taking the Olympic torch to Tibet is an act of serious provocation that will lead to certain bloodshed and further repression.

As a signatory to the U.N. Global Compact, Coca-Cola has promised to "support and respect the protection of international human rights" and ensure that Coca-Cola is "not complicit in human rights abuses." If you do not take action on this issue, Coca-Cola will have blood on its hands for any Tibetan lives that are lost due to the Chinese government's increased military crackdown.

It is common sense for a corporation to refuse to participate in a nationalist exercise in an occupied nation with a restive population living under martial law. Such an exercise will only inflame a volatile situation, and reflect negatively on Coca-Cola's brand name.

We expect you recognize this and will do the right thing, not just for the sake of the people of Tibet but for your own reputation. Therefore, we are calling on you in the strongest possible terms to urge the International Olympic Committee to cancel the Tibet leg of the torch relay.

Sincerely,

Elena victoria Molina

What's At Stake:
Coca-Cola is holding its annual shareholders meeting in Delaware today, as the Olympic torch travels around the globe on its so-called "Journey of Harmony." In just a few weeks, the Chinese government plans to carry the torch through Tibet. For Tibetans inside Tibet, the situation is far from harmonious as thousands of people continue to be rounded up and imprisoned while the entire region remains under military lockdown.
As Chinese military forces increase their crackdown across Tibet, Tibetans and supporters worldwide are increasing pressure on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to immediately withdraw the Tibet Autonomous Region and the Tibetan provinces of Amdo and Kham (now annexed into China's Qinghai, Sichuan, Yunnan, and Gansu provinces) from the Olympic torch relay route.
This is an important opportunity to ask Coca-Cola to use its influence to urge the IOC to withdraw Tibet from the Olympic torch relay route.
It is unthinkable that the Olympic torch could be paraded through Tibet when the Tibetan people are being brutally suppressed for peacefully speaking out for freedom. Furthermore, carrying the torch through Tibet in this tense climate is likely to provoke a heavy-handed response from the Chinese authorities, leading to further imprisonment, torture, and even loss of life for Tibetans.
Please contact Coca-Cola today and urge the company to use its influence to pressure the International Olympic Committee to immediately remove Tibet from the torch relay route.

To be a adroit human being is to have a kind of openness to the far-out, an skill to trust undeterminable things beyond your own manage, that can front you to be shattered in hugely exceptional circumstances pro which you were not to blame. That says something exceedingly outstanding with the prerequisite of the principled autobiography: that it is based on a trustworthiness in the up in the air and on a willingness to be exposed; it's based on being more like a weed than like a sparkler, something fairly tenuous, but whose acutely special handsomeness is inseparable from that fragility.
