Today, March 24th, China lit its 2008 Olympic Torch at Ancient Olympia in Greece, marking the first day of Beijing's "Journey of Harmony." Meanwhile, for Tibetans inside Tibet, the situation is far from harmonious as they continue to resist the Chinese government's brutal military crackdown. Chinese authorities are hoping that the torch relay kickoff will divert the world's attention from its repression in Tibet. But they're wrong. The chorus calling for an end to the repression is growing. And people everywhere are demanding immediate removal of Tibet from the Olympic torch relay. If the IOC allows the Olympic torch to be carried through Tibet, the Chinese government will inevitably continue - and likely escalate - its repression of Tibetans, using brutal force and mass arrests in order to ensure a successful propaganda exercise. But we can do something about it. Please contact your National Olympic Committee (NOC) today and ask them to urge the IOC to immediately remove Tibet from the Torch Relay Route. ANA AJMÁTOVA

Ana Ajmátova

 

Ana Ajmátova, seudónimo de de Ana Andreievna Gorenko, nació cerca de Odessa en 1889. Con veintitrés años publicó su primer libro de poemas, La tarde. En 1934 su primer marido, el también poeta Gumilev, fue acusado de actividades contrarrevolucionarias y murió fusilado. Muchos de sus amigos poetas fueron enviados a los gulags estalinianos. En 1938 Lev, su único hijo, fue encarcelado. Durante diecisiete meces, Ana Ajmátova hizo cola todas las mañanas ante la cárcel de Leningrado para tener noticias de él. De esta experiencia nacería uno de los poemarios más hermosos: Réquiem, publicado en 1963, el mismo año en que se le concedió el Premio Internacional de Literatura.

Murió en Domodedovo, cerca de Moscú, en 1966.

 

La obra de Ajmátova, una de las voces más importantes de la poesía rusa de este siglo, representa la memoria y la supervivencia del espíritu ruso.

He aquí una gran manta para ellas tejida

de pobres palabras de ellas oídas.

 

DE ellas me acuerdo siempre y por doquier,

ni en las nuevas desgracias las olvidaré,

 

y si me amordazan la boca de tormento atrita,

por la que un pueblo de cien millones grita,

 

que sea posible que ellas en su pesar me elven

en la víspera del día que a la tierra me lleven.

 

Y si en este país en un cierto momento

tienen la idea de  hacerme un monumento,

 

acepto que este homenaje me advoquen,

pero solo a condición – que lo coloquen

 

no junto al mar donde vine a nacer:

los últimos lazos con el mar desgarré,

 

ni en el parque junto al tronco venerable,

donde me busca la sombra inconsolable,

 

sino aquí ante las puertas donde estuvieron

mis pies trescientas horas y no me abrieron.

 

Porque temo en la muerte de dicha consueta,

olvidar el tronar de las negras furgonetas,

 

olvidar la odiosa puerta de golpe cerrada,

y el grito de la anciana como bestia lanceada.

 

Y ojalá en los párpados sin vida

como lágrimas corra la nieve fundida,

 

y la paloma de la cárcel arrulle en la tierra nueva,

y en silencio naveguen las naves por el Neva.

   El  primer  vídeo-clip sobre diversidad sexual realizado en la
   Isla  fue  presentado  esta  semana  para  apoyar  una campaña
   dirigida a la aceptación social de la homosexualidad.

   Entre  un  2  y  un  5,2%  de  los hombres cubanos sexualmente
   activos  reconoce  haber  tenido  una relación sexual con otro
   hombre  y  más  del  80% de las personas diagnosticadas con la
   infección  del  VIH-sida  son homosexuales y bisexuales, según
   estadísticas oficiales, reportó EFE.

   Esos  datos  se  dieron  a  conocer  este  jueves  durante  la
   presentación  del  primer  vídeo-clip  sobre diversidad sexual
   realizado  en  la  Isla  para  apoyar  una  nueva  campaña del
   proyecto  de prevención HSH (Hombres que tienen sexo con otros
   Hombres) y el Centro Nacional de Prevención de las Infecciones
   de Transmisión Sexual y el VIH-sida.

   Dicha  campaña  se  realiza  de  cara a la celebración del Día
   Mundial contra el sida, el próximo 1 de diciembre.

   El coordinador del proyecto HSH, Raúl Regueiro Segura, declaró
   que  en  este momento la incidencia más fuerte del VIH en Cuba
   la  muestra  el segmento poblacional de los hombres que tienen
   sexo  con  otros  hombres,  y agregó que por eso se desarrolla
   "una  serie de campañas dirigidas a la aceptación social de la
   homosexualidad".

   Regueiro  citó  una  investigación  realizada  por la Sociedad
   Cubana  de  Estudios de la Población y por la Oficina Nacional
   de  Estadísticas  que  indica  que del año 2000 al 2007 hay un
   incremento  en  el  auto-reconocimiento  de  los hombres en su
   orientación sexual.

   Indicó  que  ese  estudio  arrojó  que entre un 2 y un 5,2 por
   ciento de los hombres que tienen vida sexual activa en la Isla
   reconocen haber tenido una relación sexual con otro hombre.

   Asimismo,  indicó que se observa actualmente un aumento de las
   relaciones  estables  entre hombres homosexuales y del uso del
   condón en esas parejas.

   El  activista consideró que el vídeo-clip, de la canción Junto
   a  ti,  ofrece  otra  vía  para  llevar de manera atractiva el
   mensaje  de  prevención a numerosas personas, además de ser la
   imagen de la campaña que acaban de lanzar.

   Por  su parte, el autor del guión y la canción del vídeo-clip,
   el  realizador  gay  Joel  Guilián,  dijo  que confía en poder
   ayudar con este trabajo a la comunidad que representa.

   Apuntó  que  los participantes en el filme, de cuatro minutos,
   que  será  trasmitido  en  las  televisión  locales, son en su
   mayoría jóvenes que no son actores profesionales.

   "Mi  mensaje es que cada cual viva su vida mientras no le haga
   daño  a  los  demás.  Tener  una  orientación sexual u otra no
   determina  la  calidad  de  los  seres  humanos,  que  debemos
   querernos, cuidarnos y entendernos", señaló en declaraciones a
   EFE.

   Guilián,  quien  acaba  de  recibir  un  premio en el concurso
   nacional  de vídeo-clips Lucas, confesó que como homosexual se
   ha sentido "muchas veces lastimado".

   Sin  embargo, señaló: "Me puedo considerar un gran afortunado,
   porque  tengo  el  trabajo  que  me  gusta,  mis  amigos, hago
   televisión, que es lo que me gusta y ahí convivo".

   Un  total  de  9.039  personas  contagiadas  con  el virus del
   VIH-sida han sido diagnosticadas en Cuba hasta octubre pasado,
   de los cuales han enfermado 3.427.

   El  81%  de  los infectados es del sexo masculino y el 19% del
   femenino.  En conjunto, en la actualidad conviven con el virus
   7.379 cubanos.
